Family Peer Support

Family and Youth Peer Support (FYPS) Services support and empower parents/caregivers of children and youth (birth – age 0-24) who are experiencing social emotional, developmental, substance use, and/or behavioral challenges, and the children and youth themselves.

Eligibility: Families and youth do not have the means to purchase the services needed or supports and for whom there is no alternative means of funding these services. Priority will be given to families and youth where there is an imminent risk of out-of-home placement or hospitalization or for whom the services or goods purchased through wrap-around funds are essential to attain the family’s/youth’s goals detailed in their individualized care plan.

Services Provided

Group Services

A group held with enrolled individuals or non-enrolled individuals (or a combination) that focuses on one or more of the following:

• Peer-to-Peer Support – group focused on social connectedness and support offered by other families.
• Information – information delivered to a group to help increase families’ knowledge so they can make informed decisions about services for their children. Includes information on child mental health services, child-serving systems, family rights / entitlements, mental health disorders, etc.
• Skill Development – skill-based workshop on topics such as parenting skills, social skills, stress management, and advocacy/leadership skills.
• Referrals and Linkages – referrals to appropriate services and resources available within the community, based on the family’s and youth’s needs (e.g., mental health, special educational, early intervention, daycare, shelters, food pantries, employment services, etc.). Helps ensure linkages are made, i.e., individual contacts services to which he/she was referred.
• Recreation – goal-directed activities focused on skill development and socialization, as well as strengthening family bonds and peer bonds.
