Brooklyn Infant Mortality Reduction Initiative (BIMRI)
Outreach and case finding; referrals to other organizations for health, case management and support services, school and community health presentations and information sessions; and community health awareness events.

Who is Eligible?
Brooklyn Residents who are pregnant and/or are parenting infants or young children are eligible. This is a collaborative project with several other Brooklyn community-based organizations that participate on the Brooklyn Task Force on Infant & Maternal Mortality & Family Health.

MAP School Health Workshops
Health and Sexuality education, sexual responsibility and self-esteem building workshops and activities are conducted in public and junior high schools.

Some students are trained to function as Lay Peer Educators for school and community activities.

Brooklyn Healthy Start Infant Mortality Reduction Initiative
Outreach, case finding and follow-up services for pregnant women and those parenting infants up to two years old. Moderate to high risk women are referred for case management services appropriate to need.

Who is Eligible?
To be eligible, you must live in one of the following zip codes: 11203, 11205, 11213, 11216, 11221, 11225, 11226, 11233.

Sister Friend Birthing Project
Using the extended family model, this project pairs a trained volunteer (Sister Friend) to a pregnant teen or woman (little sister). The Sister Friend provides support during the pregnancy up to the baby's first birthday, while encouraging the utilization of adequate and appropriate health care services and follow-up for mother and the baby.

Case management services are also available.

Delta Alpha Zeta Stork's Nest
The Stork's Nest is an incentive-based health education program, designed to promote healthy behaviors among women during pregnancy, through education workshops and activities. Baby clothes and other supplies are provided as incentives for participants who complete courses. This project is in collaboration with the
March of Dimes and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority.

The Northern Brooklyn Coalition/Adult & Child Enrollment Program (NBC/ACE)
BPN coordinates a partnership of several community-based organizations, managed care plans and hospitals. We enroll for the following health insurance programs at our sites: Family Health Plus, Medicaid or Child Health Plus and PCAP.

The Brooklyn Task Force on Infant and Maternal Mortality and Family Health
A health educator is available to provide training to staff of CBOs and health service providers. Presentations to community groups and one-on-one information sessions and counseling with clients regarding sickle cell trait and disease are provided.

Referrals for screening tests and follow up are available.

BPN's Baby Buggy Program
Pregnant and parenting women who participate in BPN's programs can receive infant & Child supplies, clothes & furniture, if available. Some items include diapers, bibs, clothing, books, toys and strollers.

Some items for mom are also available.
